The Clarence Inferno U14 Black travel soccer team entered two teams in the recently held Ben Kirby Memorial Soccer Tournament in Albion.
Clarence’s first team, composed of Andrew Herstek, Nick Weber, Daniel Steuer, Ian Grimaldi, Ryan Ameis and Aney Djadou, defeated Albion 1, Byron-Bergen and USA-Demare before winning a playoff semifinal with Pavilion 1 by a 6-1 score.
Clarence’s second team, composed of Harry Lucinski, Andrew Talbot, Jake Wind, Brendan Ball, John Cianciosa, Colin Bigham and Kiernan Regan, defeated Churchville, USA-Demare and Albion 2. Clarence’s second team also won its semifinal-round , beating Pavilion 2 by an 8-0 mark.
Clarence Team 2 then defeated Clarence Team 1 by a 4-2 score in the title game. Lucinski and Ameis were awarded Sportsmanship pins for their efforts in the tournament.
The teams were coached by Justin Bigham and Doug Curella.
Kirby was a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology when he died in a car accident on Nov. 6, 2017, on Route 531 in the Town of Gates. He was 21 at the time, in his senior year majoring in software development.
